Muslim marriage registration office generally refers to a place where a Muslim marriage (Nikah) can be legally registered, either under Muslim Personal Law or the Special Marriage Act, 1954. In India, Muslim marriages are solemnized through a Nikah ceremony conducted by a Qazi and then can be registered with the local marriage registrar to get a legal certificate.
Types of Muslim Marriage Registration
- Under Muslim Personal Law, registration is done through the Nikahnama signed by the couple and Qazi.
- Under the Special Marriage Act, couples register their marriage in court, with the presence of witnesses, and follow a legal procedure including document verification and an objection period.
